ChildrenThe children's houses (day-care centres) close at 4pm. Toddlers are picked up by their parents, the bigger children go home - or not - on their own. There is virtually no motor traffic in the kibbutz. Strangers are rare and there generally are grown-ups nearby. So children, even if unattended, are quite safe.
Kibbutz parents still spend a lot of time in the company of their offspring. But if even one generation ago much of this time was passed outside—in summer in the swimming pool and in winter in the playground and all over the kibbutz—nowadays children stay inside much more, busy watching television and playing on computers.
